Karen Powell, MS, MSW, LCSW-C has over 25 years of clinical and administrative experience in working with children and families. In addition to earning her MSW from University of Maryland, Baltimore, she also completed graduate studies in psychology. She started her career as a foster care caseworker with the Baltimore City Department of Social Services. She has experience in homelessness, community outreach, program management and strategic planning. Most recently, she served as the Assistant Director of the Positive School Center at Social Work Community Outreach Services (SWCOS) within the School of Social Work (SSW) where she oversaw community school programs and supported school climate initiates within public school systems across Maryland. Prior joining the SSW, she served as the Program Manager for Training and Organizational Development at the Social Services Administration with the Maryland Department of Human Resources where she oversaw statewide child welfare training and workforce development initiatives, provided technical assistance, guided program implementation, managed demonstration projects funded by the Children’s Bureau and led quality assurance.
